“Will Cal Go To The Rose Bowl In My Lifetime?” Asks NFL Network’s Mike Silver.
For a time, this 2019 NCAA Season, it looked like the California Golden Bears were going to stay on a path toward what would be our school’s first Rose Bowl birth in decades. But after a really disappointing loss to Arizona State, Cal students and alumni are left not only wondering why we don’t seem to win consistently, but when will we ever get to the promised land:
The Rose Bowl.
Many Cal Alums (former students of the University of California) wonder if Cal Football will ever produce a Rose Bowl birth? The last time the Golden Bears did make the promised land was 1959. And we lost.
The last time Cal Football went to the Rose Bowl and won was 1921. Yes. 1921.
So Mike Silver, famed NFL Network Analyst, dared ask the question to colleague Daniel Jeremiah. He didn’t answer.
Reminder: Stanford has went to the Rose Bowl a bunch of times in our lifetime. Who can forget Stanford marching to the Rose Bowl not once, but three times in our lifetime:
Jan 1, 1971: Stanford – 27, Ohio State – 17
Jan 1, 1972: Stanford – 13, Michigan – 12
Jan 1, 2000: Wisconsin – 17, Stanford – 9
Why not Cal?
Stay tuned.
