500 Lake Park Oakland Ugly, Market Rate Housing Lake Merritt Doesn’t Need
ONN – 500 Lake Park Oakland Ugly, Market Rate Housing Lake Merritt Doesn’t Need.
Oakland Architect Ken Lowney’s design for 500 Lake Park Oakland, the Kwik Way Restaurant replacement at 500 Lake Park Avenue and just a few doors from the Grand Lake Theater, is way out of scale with the Lake Merritt / Grand area. Moreover, it brings 50 units of market rate housing when affordable housing is needed.
The design itself is ugly and looks like it was thrown together and like the developer is asking market rate for something that looks cheap. On top of that, Ken Lowney drew the building as if no black people ever existed in Oakland.
Seriously. That’s what the images imply – watch the vlog.
I hope this doesn’t get built. Oakland needs affordable housing – a lot of it.
Stay tuned.
