The “Jovanka Beckles for State Assembly District 15” sent over a press release which reads as follows:
Richmond City Council member Jovanka Beckles, primary election candidate for State Assembly District 15, today stated that she looks forward to the continued tallying of drop-off and mail-in ballots. Votes are being counted on a continuing basis with final certification of the election on July 13.
With only a 182 vote margin counted immediately after election day, the later-counted ballots will decide whether she or Oakland City Councilperson Dan Kalb face off against Buffy Wicks in the November election. Jovanka said,
I am gratified that the candidates presented voters with a substantive contest and I thank my supporters for their hard and successful work. Dan Kalb has my highest respect and I’m sure that whether he or I prove to be the second-highest vote-getters in the next few weeks, the choice facing voters in the fall will be clear.
Over the weekend prior to the election, Beckles was endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America national office. She was already endorsed by Our Revolution/national, five environmental action groups, seven labor organizations, seventeen local, regional and statewide political action organizations, and two major LGBTQ organizations.
Stay tuned.
