Oakland, CA – Oakland Unified School District reports that today, Friday, September 14, 5:00 p.m. at Dewey Academy, 1111 Second Avenue in Oakland, the Dewey Academy community will come together for a very special and unusual school event. A student who graduated last spring and his fiancee, who graduated one year earlier from Rudsdale High School, will be tying the knot in a ceremony on the school’s lawn.
The couple, Anthony Jesse (AJ) Collins and Patrice Treadwell, are getting married because Treadwell is about to head off for a career in the United States Marine Corps, and they want to make sure that they have family benefits. The couple have a child, Amila-Jesse Eleanor, who Collins carried with him as he accepted his diploma at graduation in June.
The wedding is being funded largely by Dewey staff who gave donations to ensure the couple have a memorable day. The officiant will be Dewey Principal Darrell Ross, an ordained minister who has a side job marrying couples across the Bay Area.
