Well, it’s Alabama, Oklahoma, Clemson, and Notre Dame for the final spots in the College Football Playoffs for the 2018 Season. But there’s one giant problem: The University of Central Florida (UCF) has now went 25 and zero and no spot in the College Football Playoffs.
In other words, UCF has won 25 games without a loss and has not been able to play the established media money schools to prove they’re the better team. The Orlando Sentinel has the best and most direct headline:
Undefeated UCF Knights shut out of College Football Playoff semifinals again
The fact that the University of Central Florida is not in the running for the National Championship, yet are 25 and zero, makes a mockery of the entire process. As The Orlando Sentinel put it:
The Knights are riding the nation’s longest win streak spanning 25 games and won back-to-back American Athletic Conference titles, but it has long been clear the College Football Playoff Selection Committee believed UCF didn’t have a tough enough strength of schedule to earn one of four playoff semifinal bids. That belief was confirmed Sunday when the top six playoff teams were unveiled on ESPN. No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 4 Oklahoma earned semifinal bids. The top three were undefeated, while the Sooners had one loss. Georgia, a two-loss team, took the No. 5 spot and one-loss Ohio State took the No. 6 slot.
Now the fact is Georgia had no business in the five-slot because it had two losses. Nothing against the Georgia Bulldogs, but what’s better, a two-loss team or a 25-0 team in that slot? I can understand that they’re above Ohio State and that’s the whole strength of schedule thing, but that said, why not put UCF in for Ohio State? That said, congratulations to the Georgia Bulldogs and to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
That the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in contention for the National Championship is a huge testament to the coaching brilliance of Brian Kelly. His technical skill at offensive football was obvious when he was at Cincinnati and it’s been on full display at Notre Dame. Here’s coach Kelly talking with Zennie62Media at the 2017 NFL Draft:
Notre Dame for the win.
Stay tuned.
