This opinion comes off the heels of the first presidential debate between Biden and former U.S. president Donald Trump last week. Rather than a lesser-of-two-evils situation, Dintersmith tells Global’s U.S. correspondent Jackson Proskow about a six-week spanning “blitz primary” election, where the Democrats “showcase a number of people with compelling visions that they articulate in their own way, and let America get to know those candidates and get excited” about a process where supporters can vote for a successor candidate for themselves. “Other countries go start to finish with entire elections in six weeks. So it’s not as though, you know, that’s in an impossibly compressed time frame,” Dintersmith said, adding, “Who else thinks you need 18 exhausting months of primary process to decide who your nominee is? I mean, that’s ludicrous, right?
