Buffy Wicks AD-15 Assemblymember Announces 2020 Re-Election Campaign Labor Endorsers

Buffy Wicks Re-Election Campaign gains momentum with broad range of union support.

OAKLAND — Today, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks announced a robust list of endorsements from the labor community for her re-election campaign in March 2020.

Wicks announced endorsements from the California Building & Construction Trades Council of California, Building & Construction Trades Council of Alameda County, Contra Costa Building & Construction Trades Council, SEIU Local 2015, SEIU California, UDW-AFSCME Local 3930, California Labor Federation, California State Education Association, California Teachers Association, California Federation of Teachers, California Professional Firefighters, UFCW Local 5, and Teamsters Local 70. The broad show of support demonstrates Wicks’ deep relationships with the labor community, and the necessity of her work in Sacramento as an ally for all California workers.

“I am deeply honored to have the support of so many members of the labor community,” said Assemblymember Buffy Wicks. “I have stood with labor throughout my career — including when I worked as an organizer at the United Food and Commercial Workers advocating for better wages and healthcare for Walmart workers.”

She continued, “Since being elected to the California State Assembly in 2018, I have continued to work and fight alongside the labor community on a number of critical bills. I was a proud co-author of Assembly Bill 5, ending predatory employers’ practices of classifying employees as contractors, which strips workers of good wages, healthcare, and workplace protections. I was also a proud co-author of AB 378, allowing 40,000 California childcare workers to unionize — a key campaign promise I made in 2018, and an issue to which I am wholeheartedly committed.”

“I am proud to endorse Assemblymember Buffy Wicks for re-election in 2020,” said Andreas Cluver, Secretary-Treasurer of the Building & Construction Trades Council of Alameda County. “She is one of labor’s strongest allies in Sacramento, and I know that when she wins a second term in the Assembly, she will go to bat for millions of California workers — construction workers, childcare workers, teachers, first responders, and so many more.”

“Assemblymember Buffy Wicks fought for working families as a community organizer, and she has done so as an elected official, scoring critical wins for labor and working people in just her first year in Sacramento,” said April Verrett, President of SEIU 2015. “We are honored to stand with her, and proud to endorse her for re-election in 2020.”

“I am very grateful to the many unions, and their individual members, who have endorsed my re-election campaign,” Assemblymember Buffy Wicks said. “I’m committed to standing with working people to demand better wages, better healthcare, and stronger workplace protections. It’s what I’ve done my whole life, and when I am re-elected in March, I will keep up the fight.”
