California AD 15 Race Update: Jovanka Beckles Lands Unions, Elected Officials, Activists Endorsements

Jovanka Beckles, the Richmond City Councilmember running against Buffy Wicks for the California Assembly District 15 Seat, continues to send Zennie62Media email press releases. Meanwhile, we have not received any updates from the Buffy Wicks campaign since Zennie Abraham’s interview of Ms. Wicks (which we thought was good). This is important to note, because our policy is to push out candidate news when its received, and for all candidates.

From the Jovanka Beckles campaign:

Union and local elected officials in the East Bay region and California-wide continue to endorse the candidacy of Jovanka Beckles for AD 15 Representative in Sacramento. Responding to the California Federation of Teachers’ endorsement, Jovanka said, “I am so proud and honored to have the endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers! I look forward to working side-by-side with you for a more equitable society and a government that listens to our concerns.”

Grateful to the United Teachers of Richmond for their enthusiastic endorsement, she said, “Thank you, United Teachers of Richmond (UTR) for trusting that I have your back: the backs of working people! I won’t let you down!”

In additional endorsements, the Coalition for Grassroots Progress, having endorsed Jovanka for the primary, re-endorsed for general election. And experienced, long-serving local elected officials and activists continue to gravitate to Jovanka’s campaign:

• San Pablo Councilmember and current Mayor Genoveva Garcia Calloway ;
• San Pablo Councilmember Cecilia Valdez;
• El Cerrito Councilmember Janet Abelson;
• Oakland/Berkeley political activist David Weintraub, Chair at the Wellstone Democratic Club Education Committee;
• Former West Contra Costa Unified School District Board Member Todd Groves.

Jovanka declared, “I am highly honored to have the support of these long-serving individuals, colleagues who have been so constructively engaged at the heart of democracy in our Bay Area communities!”
