Dueling groups of protesters clashed at UCLA grappling in fistfights and shoving, kicking and using sticks to beat one another. Speaking on Tuesday from Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the possibility that it could introduce arrest warrants against Netanyahu and other top officials for alleged violations of international law. “This is an outrage of historic proportions,” Netanyahu said, suggesting that the ICC, based in The Hague, is contemplating issuing arrest warrants. “It will also be the first time that a democratic country fighting for its life according to the rules of war is itself accused of war crimes,” he added. Israel is not a member of the ICC and does not recognize its jurisdiction, but the Palestinian territories were admitted as a member state in 2015. Canada became the first country in the world to have individual warning labels on each cigarette after its regulations officially rolled out on Tuesday, with king-size cigarettes the first to be wrapped with the new information. When will we put an end to this wacko policy by this wacko prime minister?” Poilievre said. “A scar that won’t heal”: Charlotte police identify officers, suspect killed in shooting

Police provided an update on Tuesday after four law enforcement officers were killed and four others were wounded in a shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina while trying to serve a warrant Monday afternoon. The suspect left the house while armed, police said, and officers opened fire and shot him in the front yard, where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified by police as Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., 39. During a press conference on Tuesday, police chief Johnny Jennings identified the deceased officers as well as provided an update on the ongoing investigation. An AR-15 rifle along with ammo was recovered from the scene. “It’s a scar on Charlotte, but it’s a scar that won’t heal,” Jennings said of the tragedy. As temperatures soar in Asia, extreme heatwaves are affecting several countries in the continent. A 14-year-old boy was killed, and four other people were injured, after a stabbing in London on Tuesday involving a man with a sword, Metropolitan Police said. Police tasered and arrested a 36-year-old man after the incident near Hainault in east London. Video footage showed a man dressed in yellow wielding what appeared to be a sword. Two members of the public and two police officers were in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two police officers had stab wounds requiring surgery, police added. Police said they did not believe the incident was targeted. An Edmonton couple discovered a potential prehistoric artifact in their front yard last year while doing some landscaping. Homicide investigators have arrested a 28-year-old Surrey man in connection with a fatal stabbing in White Rock last week. Kulwinder Singh Sohi was attacked on the night of April 23 on the community’s popular beach promenade in B.C. Critics compare the bill to similar legislation used to silence opposition groups in Russia. Thousands of Georgians marched through the capital, Tbilisi, on Sunday to voice their opposition to the bill, with opposition parties and civil society groups calling for mass protests against its expected passage. “There are hundreds of such NGOs who have done so much good for Georgia and now they face being stigmatized and possibly shut down,” protester Nika Shurgaia said. “I’m angry and I’m sad,” another protestor said. The bill must pass three readings in parliament to become law, as well as overcome a veto by Georgia’s figurehead president, who opposes it. The demonstration at the iconic institution came days after protests at the capital’s elite Sciences Po University, and follow a wave of campus rallies in the U.S. “We need to raise awareness about these things, these are important issues and as students, we feel concerned,” said student protester Louis Maziere. The university, one of the world’s oldest, closed its buildings for the day during the protest as students chanted “Free Palestine” and urged the institution to condemn Israel for its war in Gaza. Israel launched its war on Hamas in the wake of the Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel that killed 1,200 people and resulted in 253 people being taken hostage.
