Just when it seemed like Oakland’s problems with the Proud Boys white supremacist group were behind us, here comes Donald Trump to bring back the threat.
President Trump has an obsession with Oakland, mentioning our town and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf ever since she defied his ICE Raids.
I contend that Trump triggered an attack on her home on the night of July 21, 2020. He mentioned that Oakland was a mess – then hours later masked attackers made Libby’s home’s exterior just that.
The Proud Boys, a group that, as I wrote here at Oakland News Now is “seen as a racist, alt-right group that was founded in 2016 by Gavin McInnes, the Vice Media co-founder. The group has rapidly formed a reputation for violent protest, and have a nickname “The Right Wing Brawlers,” walking into bars and starting fights.” But a member of a spin-off group called the “Bay Area Proud Boys” called in response to the first post at Oakland News Now, because he was “shocked” at the depiction of the organization he’s associated with.
“We’re not at all what you’re saying in your article,” the man who did not wish to be identified explained. “We’re husbands, fathers, friends, responsible members of the community. We believe in helping people, and we’re all about being the best men we can be. We have all kinds of people as members, black, Asian, I’m Mexican American.”
At that we had a very good and wide-ranging conversation. My main question to him was why meet at all? The Bay Area Proud Boys Member explained that “We’re not meeting at Make Westing. I don’t know where that came from.” I asked if he looked at the Make Westing Facebook Page, and he said he did, but he doesn’t know what’s up because there was no plan to go there. And about the racism image?
The caller said “We don’t at all condone racism or sexism or that stuff. We have engineers and they would not be in the group if that (racism and sexism) was going on. We help people raise money. We help the homeless. We’re not out there causing trouble,” he said. “The only thing is we … believe in protecting the flag.” I reminded him that flag protest is in itself an American right and tradition. “I know,” he said, “we protect the first amendment.”
In sum, if the The Bay Area Proud Boys and The Proud Boys are what my caller says, then there should be no problem, right? But the reality is the Southern Poverty Law Center has The Proud Boys listed as a racist hate group, and so if the The Bay Area Proud Boys are associated with The Proud Boys, how the heck is anyone supposed to know they’re not a collection of bad dudes to have issues with blacks and Latinos?
The Oakland Police must be on alert for any sign of trouble.

Are these A’s going to go out again in the 1st round not having won a series since 2006. They were being held by Lucas Giolito to a perfect game through 6 before Tommy La Stella opened the B-7 with a leadoff single. After that they had a threat in the 8th where the tying run came up but couldn’t do anything to muster up more than 1 run in a Game 1 Loss. The A’s are the 3rd seed so they will have all three games in Oakland and no travel but those bats better get going. It will be just as tough tomorrow in an elimination game as the A’s best pitcher for 2020 Chris Bassitt goes v Dallas Keuchel. A lot of Oakland fans were asking where Mike Fiers was to start today instead of the rookie Jesus Luzardo. Need to get off to strong starts and Oakland did not. The White Sox at one time had the best record in the AL but because of a 9/10 game losing streak to end the regular season, they fell all the way to 7th by virtue of finishing third behind the Indians and Minnesota Twins. A’s fans still have a lot of hope going to tomorrow and hopefully Thursday, but get off to a good start.

Very impressive and very fast YouTube Live Control Center. What I am needing is some code that posts the name of the channel manager on Zennie62 who starts and who did a live stream, as well as a standard video. That really helps when one has a multiple vlogger channel.
In all, a massive upgrade that seamlessly mates with my Mac OSX.

Vasu Vaddiparty previews the A’s / White Sox playoff series starting Tuesday in Oakland. Because of 2020, all 3 games will be played in Oakland. There will be no travel. After the WildCard rounds then all the advancing teams will go to their version of the bubble. NL teams will go to Houston and Arlington and AL teams will go to LA and San Diego. The World Series will be at Globe Life Field, the brand new home of the Texas Rangers. A’s are the 2-seed and have to take on a White Sox team who 3 weeks ago had the best record in the AL. A tough 2-3 week stretch saw them fall to 2, then to 4th, and after a horrendous weekend against their cross-town rival Cubs fall all the way to 7th. A’s fans and players cannot take the White Sox lightly as they have MVP candidate Jose Abreu playing 1st. The A’s bullpen has to step up and young Jesus Lazardo has to avoid some of his control problems and attack the strike zone. He has excellent stuff but his location and his consistency will come into play tomorrow. He will be opposed by Lucas Giolito who is the White Sox ace and has a no-hitter on his 2020 resume. Not an easy matchup for Oakland but one they can play well in and win if they continue to do the right things.

Today I witnessed something I’ve never witnessed before in Oakland, California. A young Hispanic man bypassed the fare gate at Coliseum BART station without paying; thus setting off the alarm. Two BART police officers just coincidentally happened to be about 20 feet away from where the man was, while I was watching all of this unfold perpendicular to where the officers were at the time. As the man continued walking away, the police officers followed the man while shouting for him to stop and go back to pay for his ride fare. The man clearly ignored their commands and then pulled out a knife. That’s when the officers pulled out their tasers. At this point, I ran for cover and started recording this video from a safe distance. You can tell my hands were shaking when I was recording this video as I was scared myself and did not know if the suspect also had a gun on him. You can clearly tell the officers were pleading for the man to drop the knife. I could hear everything that was being said clearly, even if this video doesn’t display the best audio quality. The suspect was tased multiple times. After the man was handcuffed, you can clearly see the knife on the floor. You can also see one of the officers picking up another similar knife by the wall (not sure if it was thrown by the suspect). I stopped recording when 6-8 other police officers showed up. I was interviewed by Sergeant, William Spears of #BartPolice for a witness statement, as I was the only witness to this situation. In my opinion, the officers handled this situation in a very professional manner. This could have escalated into something much worse; however, I’m just glad that nobody was hurt.

In February of 1996, when I held the title of Economic Advisor to Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris, I was approached by Al LoCasale, who was Executive Assistant To Al Davis and The Oakland Raiders. While the reason for Al LoCasale’s approach was to use political channels to re-establish the 49ers / Raiders Preseason Game, I also learned a lot of what could be called “NFL Politics”. I was also introduced to a man that LoCasale told me “they were grooming to be Commissioner. Roger Goodell”. I also learned what was on the collective mind of the NFL.
We would meet at Raiders Headquarters and go for lunch at Linguine’s in Alameda (1508 Park Street). Awesome Italian cuisine. During one of our talks (which also included a lot of football strategy discussions) Al LoCasale said “What do you think of Chan Gailey?” I offered that I knew little about him. Al LoCasale said that many around the NFL considered him a genius, though he did not detail why that was.
Now, after many jobs, including Georgia Tech Head Coach, Chan Gailey stepped out of retirement at 68 to serve as Offensive Coordinator for Brian Flores, Miami Dolphins Head Coach. It was Gailey who directed the Dolphins’ win over the Jacksonville Jaquars, with Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm of the offense. It was a lesson in the application of good old basic smash-mouth running concepts, paired with a nifty play action passing attack, sprinkling in a little read-option.
What I realized is that Chan Gailey, who now forgot more football than most people know, is a genius in that he knows how to teach the game, and instruct players in what to do. He may not be an innovator like Bill Walsh, but Coach Gailey understands what concepts work, when, and why.
I think Al LoCasale intended to say that, but he was enjoying the lasagna too much!

When Operation HomeBase opened, City was made aware that the Electrical grid to power the trailers was insufficient. This past May, my Medical Client nearly died from this issue. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf vowed to correct this problem. The solution has yet to be implemented, and now has KILLED a resident at The City of Oakland’s Safe Trailer Park at 633 Hegenberger Road (trailer number withheld).
HCEB or Housing Consortium Of The East Bay (which was hired by City of Oakland to do oversight of the park) refuses to allow residents to use outside Shade to sit outside their Trailer. Thus FORCING seniors with severe Medical issues to sit in direct sunlight without relief!
Housing Consortium Of The East Bay had been WARNED about Cal-OSHA Health & Safety Violations everywhere.

Soo, himself living in a homeless encampment, told me that the person who died is, as I am writing this, still sitting in a chair in the middle of the Safe Trailer Park!
