Columbia University protest escalates with students occupying building on campus

This spring, keep an eye and ear out for billions of periodical cicadas emerging from their prolonged dormancy across much of the Midwest and South. Cicadas spend most of their life underground as nymphs before erupting from the earth and engulfing surrounding trees. They’ll live for a few weeks for the sole purpose of mating and lay their eggs underground, where the cycle continues. Two separate broods are expected to make a rare in-sync appearance in 2024: Brood XIII, which emerges every 17 years, and Brood XIX, which is on a 13-year cycle. Tornadoes leave path of destruction through central U.S.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency in 12 counties after severe storms and several tornadoes ripped across Oklahoma on Saturday. The storms left at least four people dead, including a 4-month-old baby and at least 100 people injured. Extensive destruction in Sulphur, Oklahoma, a town of about 5,000 people and home of the Chickasaw Nation Cultural Center, took place within what officials said was a 15-block storm radius. Buildings in the town were destroyed, cars were tossed on their sides and roofs were pulled straight off houses by the tornadoes. “I’ve seen a lot of damage, I’ve been around the state,” Stitt said at a press conference Sunday in Sulphur. “This is my sixth year, but what I saw in downtown Sulphur is unbelievable.” Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby wrote in a statement that his tribal nation’s historic Artesian Hotel and art gallery had sustained some damage, but all staff and patrons in those locations were safe. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved.
