Oakland News Now – Chris Dobbins, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Joint Powers Authority Board Member was the guest of Zennie62 on YouTube Livestream for Wednesday, August 15th.
Note: City Of Oakland Can Buyout Alameda County Share Of Oakland Coliseum, But Shouldn’t – Here’s Why
Dobbins, the appointee of Alameda County District Five Supervisor Nate Miley, talked gave a kind of update of the Oakland Coliseum JPA situation with the Golden State Warriors, Oakland Athletics, and the Oakland Raiders.
Dobbins said the Coliseum JPA is in arbitration against the Golden State Warriors, but considering the amount of money in dispute (about $40 million, now) and the cost of their new arena (about $1 billion), Dobbins could not say much given the legal position the JPA was in, but he wondered why the Warriors were fighting over what he and this blogger saw as a relatively small amount of money?
On the matter of the Oakland A’s, the one bright spot, Dobbins is one who prefers that the team remain at the Coliseum. That said, he and a number of A’s players, have took note of the poor crowd turn-out, even though the A’s have the best record of all teams outside of The World Champion Houston Astros. Perhaps a new stadium would solve that problem, but should it take that much?
And on the matter of the Oakland Raiders, I asked Dobbins what he thought of the news (broken on Zennie62Media) that the Silver and Black were threatening to play football games at San Jose’s football stadium if the City of Oakland files a lawsuit against it and the NFL. Dobbins is of the view that the Raiders “will stay in Oakland for the next three years.”
We also talked about the idea of having the Coliseum made a designated national historic landmark. Dobbins liked the idea and said that there also needed to be a real “hall of fame home” for the legends that played major roles in the Coliseum.
Stay tuned.
