via Oakland News Now The Oakland City Council will take up the issue of dockless bikes and scooters that have seemingly taken over Oakland, and Lake Merritt in particular, tonight.
CJ Hirschfield, The Executive Director of Children’s Fairyland, has a lot to say about what I will call The Scooter Problem At Lake Merritt. Ms Hirschfield has been impacted by what she calls the “takeover” of scooters around the Lake.
In my interview at Oakland City Council moments ago, Hirschfield told a story of how scooter users vandalized the walk in front of Children’s Fairyland.
The City Council will vote on an ordinance to control the use of dockless bikes and scooters tonight.
UPDATE: The City’s ordinance passed with Oakland City Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan saying ““This Ordinance will provide responsible guidelines for scooter companies as they do business in Oakland.”
The final vote on the proposed ordinance will take place in on Election Day November 2018.
Stay tuned.
