Wow. I am very happy to see that Monahan’s has reopened as “D Monaghan’s On The Hill” at 2820 Mountain Blvd near Oakland’s Montclair District.

The last time I attended the popular hang for Skyline High School grads was as part of festivities for our 30th reunion of the Class of 1980. Man, that was a blast! This time, the venue was the focus of the grand opening under the new name D Monaghan’s On The Hill. Oakland District Seven Councilmember and Mayoral Candidate Treva Reid attended the event, and wrote this on Linkedin:

(I have to note the irony of Oakland District Seven Councilmember and Mayoral Candidate Treva Reid at the grand opening of a bar and eatery in the Oakland Hills, where Oakland District Four Councilmember and Mayoral Candidate Sheng Thao supposedly holds dominion. While I don’t think Treva had any thought of Sheng when she went to the grand opening, the fact that it happened uinderscores a racial divide I have hinted at before. Sheng sends a luke-warm to cold message regarding black folks that she needs to work on if she wants to be Mayor in this town. From her stiff-arming of her colleague Oakland District Six Councilmember Loren Taylor a couple of weeks back, delaying his presentation of his idea for curbing gun violence, to her Oakland Mayor Race commercial that hid the existence of black men, to not attending or not knowing about this event in her back yard that was mostly black, a theme is forming. Sheng needs to clean this up, and fast – otherwise the impression that blacks, and more pointedly black men, are not important to her is going to sink her run for the top job in Oakland. I guarantee that. OK, back to the fun.)
D Monaghan’s On The Hill is back to rekindle those good times. You can go and watch sports and enjoy their chicken wings and sports bar fare.
