Senator Bernie Sanders, Congressman Cedric Richmond featured in convention segment “We the People Recovering”

MILWAUKEE—Tonight at the Democratic National Convention, Americans shared their vision of a future where our nation’s leaders once again look out for the middle class, and bring access to affordable health care, housing, and education within reach for hardworking families. The three-part series in tonight’s program dedicated to the monumental challenges our country is facing concluded with “We the People Recovering,” and focused on the dignity of work, and how Democrats and Joe Biden are fighting every day to build our nation back better and lead us out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

In “We the People Recovering”:

  • Congressman Cedric Richmond of Louisiana reflected on how America’s small businesses make our neighborhoods feel like home, and reframed the conversation around the nation’s economic challenges—in a way that puts working people first. ”Economists will tell you that small businesses like this one are critically important to our recovery. But they’re also just plain important. Without them, the places we call home just wouldn’t be the same. That’s the thing Joe Biden understands that Donald Trump never will.”
  • Greg Weaver, a former Amtrak conductor and friend of Joe Biden’s—who rode the train with Biden for decades—will tell us how Biden cares about ordinary, hard-working Americans, and how he treats them with dignity and respect. “I’m not saying it like it was me and I was anything special. Everybody was special to him. We have heroes all over this country, and a lot of essential workers that we don’t even see that are behind the scenes. They’re keeping this country going. He understands that.”
  • Live from Hen of Woods Restaurant in Burlington, Vermont, Senator Bernie Sanders underscored the urgency of this moment and laid out exactly what’s at stake in November. “In response to the unprecedented set of crises we face, we need an unprecedented response – a movement, like never before, of people who are prepared to stand up and fight for democracy and decency—and against greed, oligarchy and authoritarianism.”
