Smallville at Dragon Con Atlanta? Yes!

Dragon Con is known for giving an audience of people who missed cancelled sci-fi and fantasy shows a way to reconnect with the stars of those creations. Often, we learn that there’s still a hunger for the story and production of science fiction shows like Smallville. In fact, Smallville is a Dragon Con.

Thanks to my long-time college friend (since 1993) Keith Johnson, I received a good update on the doings at Dragon Con, as he attended the Smallville panel. But before I continue, you may be wondering what Smallville is – or was? Wikipedia has a really good description:

Smallville is an American television series developed by writer-producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on the DC Comics character Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The series, initially broadcast by The WB, premiered on October 16, 2001. After Smallville‘s fifth season, The WB and UPN merged to form The CW, the series’ later United States broadcaster. Smallville, which ended its tenth and final season on May 13, 2011, follows Clark Kent (Tom Welling) in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, before he becomes known as Superman. The first four seasons focus on Clark and his friends in high school. After season five Smallville ventures into adult settings, eventually focusing on his career at the Daily Planet and introducing other DC comic-book superheroes and villains.

Even though Smallville ended about seven years ago, there’s still a hunger for the Tom Welling version of Superman. So much so that Welling has said he would be open to reappearing in the Arrow-verse, as it’s called and describing the Supergirl, The Arrow, and The Flash, and DC Legends of Tomorrow show mini-network. But until then, he is happy at Dragon Con, and keeping the audience laughing, as Keith reports:

“”Smallville” panel with Michael Rosenbaum (“Lex Luthor”) and Tom Welling (“Clark Kent”). It’s fun! Rosenbaum is a nut, cracking jokes, running into the crowd. And he brings out Welling, who’s more reserved and guarded. We’ve been laughing for a straight hour.”

Maybe Rosenbaum and Welling should do stand-up comedy?

Stay tuned.
