Oakland News Now – Elihu Harris, Former Oakland Mayor and I talk Oakland elections 2018 and Oakland Politics.
Elihu was Oakland’s 46th Mayor from 1991 to 1999, and prior to that the youngest person ever elected to the California Assembly. I was Mayor Harris’ Economic Adviser from 1995 to 2001, and given a range of issues to monitor from redevelopment to the Oakland Raiders and the Oakland A’s.
Ahead of the Thursday, August 23 Oakland Candidate Forum from 5 PM – 9 PM PDT at the Elihu Harris State Building, we talked for almost an hour and a half about President Donald Trump and his remarks about Omarosa, the California Democratic Party’s election where they failed to back Senator Diane Feinstein over State Senator Kevin de Leon, the Oakland election races from Mayor to Districts 2, 4, and 6, what is Oakland becoming, and should we blame California Governor and former Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown for causing Oakland’s gentrification by terminating Redevelopment Law?
Elihu also told the story of how the new Coliseum Arena we call Oracle Arena came to be, and because too many people refer to a building newly built in 1998 as “old.” And we talked about the Oakland Police Commission. And, oh, yes, the Oakland Raiders and the chance their may be a lawsuit filed against them because of the Las Vegas Relocation issue. And the Oakland A’s – where Elihu believes the best place for the team is the Coliseum and not Howard Terminal.
So, sit for an hour! Check out our talk!
Stay tuned.
