Gladys Green Great Oakland Resident Passes At 98 Years Old. Tribute By Ray Leon
A Zennie62 Oakland News Now YouTube vlog
Ray Leon on Facebook: One of the greatest heartfelt moments in someone’s life (for me), is when I recognize someone as “my other Mom”, or “my other Dad”. It’s real and meaningful. Sadly, my other Mom, and my guess, an “other Mom” to so many, has graciously received her wings in Heaven.
Ms. Gladys Green transitioned this past Monday at the Young Age of 98. For those of you who knew Gladys, words cannot begin to describe what Ms. Green meant to the entire City of Oakland. Her love for this City was enduring, tireless, uplifting, and more often than naught, exactly what this City needed. More so, Ms. Green was a giving soul, and far better it from me to say, the most loving person you could ever meet. She was never concerned about her own living, but always showed concerns for others. When Ms. Green graced her presence into a room, you were with Royalty and Elegance….and you knew you were about to be educated on what Community meant. She was the Mt. Everest of Community involvement and never wavered on what she fought so long for. Her smile, literally lit up any room, while she had the attention of local, state, and federal elected leaders. When Gladys spoke….you listened!!!!!
I’m going to miss my other Mom, and I will continue to believe that I’m a much better person because of her direction, dedication, friendship, and most of all….her love.
Please keep her in your hearts and her family (Beverly, Joy, and Charles), in your prayers.
HER STORY
Gladys Green has made her mark in her hometown of Oakland many times over – as a neighborhood activist, a business leader, a champion of low-income and underserved residents and as a driving force in successful efforts to curb gun violence. Gladys is Board Chair of the Alameda County – Oakland Community Action Partnership, which works to eliminate poverty and blunt its impacts. For more than a decade, Gladys has organized monthly food giveaways and holiday toy drive for families and children at St. Benedict’s Church. She is a longtime member and current Vice Chair of the Board of Oakland Business Development Corporation, which provides loans and consultation to help launch small businesses. She successfully helped launch Oakland’s Pican and Bakesale Betty restaurants. Gladys has also been a leader in efforts to promote public safety. In 1999, she was honored by the State of California for her work on legislation broadening restrictions on assault weapons and she has worked with the Oakland Unified School District on programs seeking to remove guns from school campuses. Gladys is an active member of Saint Benedict’s Church, where she is an electoral and Eucharistic minister. She also previously volunteered as the president of the Elmhurst Community Board for the City of Oakland and as a member of the Coliseum Redevelopment Advisory Committee.

Note from Zennie62Media and OaklandNewsNowBlog.com : this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
