House Democratic Staff Diversity Effort Is Step In Right Direction

Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement in support of Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s letter on staff diversity:

“The American people last week elected the most diverse Congress in our nation’s history, with more than 100 women joining the 116th Congress. The congressional workforce – particularly at senior levels – should reflect the broad diversity of the people they serve. The civil rights community applauds Leader Pelosi’s efforts to promote the hiring of diverse candidates for senior congressional staff positions. We call on lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to recognize the importance of diversity in their hiring and to take concrete steps to increase diversity among the congressional workforce.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States. The Leadership Conference works toward an America as good as its ideals.
