Well, 2019 4th Of July, or 4th Of July 2019 is in the books. And for this vlogger, it was spent in the company of my dear Mom here in Georgia.
While I still maintain my apartment in Oakland’s Adams Point (and primarily for business reasons), staying with my elderly Mom is my top priority these days. And the one bonus of this for me is my Mom’s cooking: she loves to cook, and it really good at it, as you can see:
Before Mom and my late stepfather left Oakland for suburban Atlanta, they were cooking up a storm in the East Oakland Hills. That combined with my current residency and this blog cause me to turn more than the casual eye toward what Oakland’s doing on days like the 4th Of July 2019. So, here’s the answer, or I should here are the answers, to that question, thanks to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube:
This YouTube video was made with a smartphone held the wrong way, that is vertically. Yes, it’s common, but it’s also not the best way to use the camera’s lens to let us see what’s happening. So, we get this narrow image of fireworks being lit in the street:
And this tweet:

Meanwhile, Rap-A-Lot Seagram put out this new creation on YouTube on the 4th of July, 2019:
Oakland Raiders Celebrate Al Davis 90th Birthday
The Oakland Raiders celebrated what would have been Al Davis’ 90th Birthday on the 4th of July by posting this YouTube video of Mr. Davis’ NFL Hall of Fame Enshrinement Speech on August 1, 1992:
Fam Bam At Lake Merritt For July 4th 2019
There were a lot of posts referring to an event called “Fam Bam” and they were at Lake Merritt. Here’s an example:
Anyway, Fam Bam is, according to its website, an event hosted by Afrocentric Oakland. The happening has drawn the participation of Kendrick Lamar, so you know they have to be doing something right.
Fireworks Watching In The Berkeley Hills
Some folks managed to find a nice place to watch the fireworks in the Berkeley Hills:
Well, stay tuned. I’m going to add more to this post, as the day progresses.
