Elle Macpherson is the supermodel who was best known in the 1980s, but is still in circulation today. One example of her travels “back in the day” is this photo posted by a man named Barry Weinberg on Instagram, who then worked for the Oakland Athletics.
This is what Mr. Weinberg wrote:
barryweinberg Throw Back Thursday!!!
Meeting Elle Macpherson when I was with the Oakland A’s. Elle is an Australian model, businesswoman, television host and actress. She is known for her record five cover appearances for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue beginning in the 1980s. #baseball #mybooklife #oakland #luckyguy #life #authorsofinstagram #mlb #oaklandathletics #insta
But what was Elle Macpherson doing in Oakland at the Oakland Coliseum, then?
Well, a search in the Google Search Engine revealed an entry in the 1993 Sports Illustrated, where it was reported that Elle threw out the first pitch at an Oakland A’s game. SI writer Steve Wulf wrote this:
Elle Macpherson, the model who has graced three SPORTS ILLUSTRATED covers, threw out a first ball in Oakland a few years ago. “I remember her,” says former A’s catcher Ron Hassey, now a coach for the Colorado Rockies. “How can you forget her? She didn’t know what to do after I caught it. I didn’t know if we were going to shake hands or if I was going to get a smack on the cheek. I ended up hitting her on the forehead with the beak of my helmet.” And that, dear reader, is why Elle hasn’t been on the cover of the Swimsuit Issue recently.
So that explains it.
