ONN – Very sad news as Jim Grant or Mitchell Jim Grant passed away due to complications related to dialysis. He was my stepfather Arnold Grant’s brother’s son.

Jim was also a hell of a jazz singer.

From his website Jim Grant Music:

Jim is a new voice to the Chicago Jazz scene. Born and raised in Chicago, he was always a singer at heart. So after 34 years of working his regular 9-5 job as a Teamster, he decided it was now or never to follow his heart and sing.

Jim developed his baritone vocals at the Bloom School of Jazz under the guidance of David Bloom and jazz vocalist Spider Saloff. Jim has performed with BSJ at Chicago’s Green Mill Lounge, Katerina’s, Mayne Stage and as a featured vocalist at Universal Alley Jazz Jam. In the tradition of such legendary jazz vocalists as Billy Eckstine and Johnny Hartman; Jim Grant brings his own distinctive style to Jazz and American standards, such as “Isn’t It Romantic”, “Somebody Loves Me”, “My One And Only Love” and many more…. including Blues and contemporary classics.

Whether performing a ballad or uptempo song he puts his feelings into every word he sings. Using his emotional expression with a kind of intensity that’s not often heard today. Jim’s rich, baritones vocals are always from the heart.

You could catch him at some of the finest jazz spots on the North Side of Chicago. His website listed where he would play next, and has video of some of his performances.

I saw Jim perform at Uncommon Ground – Edgewater, 1401 West Devon Ave, Chicago, IL, with the Tom Muellner Trio.

Jim was a very kind man who will be missed by many. RIP Jim.

I swear I will never understand why we have to pass away. But little efforts like this keep everyone alive.

Stay tuned.

Note from Zennie62Media and Oakland News Now: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
