John Clayton Of ESPN Passes: We Lost A True Friend And A Nice Person

As I said in the vlog, I officially met John Clayton when he entered the media work room at the NFL Spring League Meeting in Charlotte, in 2016, sat next to me, and said “I want you to tell me what’s going on in Oakland, with the Raiders, at the Coliseum.”   For me, that was a complement, because I had become used to being ostracized by the majority of the NFL Media.  The primary reasons, from where I sat, were because I was a tech-oriented black guy who owned his own media company (now most of it), was video-focused in the way of a YouTube influencer, and came into the whole deal from a different road.  On top of that I was from Oakland and wasn’t buying what the Raiders were selling in the reasons for their attempted move to Las Vegas.

But John Clayton didn’t treat me the way most everyone else did.   So, we wound up talking for almost an hour.  He gave me the respect of a subject matter expert on what was going on with the Mayor of Oakland. And we stayed in touch.

By the time I saw him at SFO Airport, where his wife and I shared a plane ride to Arizona for the 2017 NFL Annual Meeting, I was comfortable enough with our friendship to vlog his comments at the airport without thinking about it.  But by the time we landed, the only thing I thought about was making sure he and Pat got off the plane.

See, his wife had and has MS, and so we had to work with the United Airlines staff to make sure she was able to comfortably get off the plane.  That called for waiting for everyone else to leave and then coordinating bag handling.  I was only happy to help.  John’s real job wasn’t with ESPN, it was being a caretaker to his wife.  That’s what he did so very well.  It’s also what makes this news so hard to take.

John was, as they say, a mensch.  My prayers are with his wife and sister.

Note from Zennie62Media and OaklandNewsNowBlog.com : this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
