Karen Chu, 39, is an Asian-American and new first-time mom with a zeal for experiencing all that life has to offer through her multitude of interests and talents spanning design, technology, video games, sharks, marathons, and trivia games. While she enjoys running marathons around the world in handmade costumes, with Antarctica being the only continent left to conquer, she’s most passionate about uncovering facts on just about every topic in existence. Karen has taken her hobby beyond fandom authoring the quiz book Jawsome Shark Quizzes to most recently, appearing as a contestant on the ABC network trivia battle show, The Chase.
After almost a decade of weekly “pub trivia” sessions with her circle of fellow trivia nerds, Karen decided to unite fact freaks from all around the world and launched the Good Job, Brain! trivia podcast. The award-winning show garnered critical acclaim with 17.5 million lifetime downloads. Set to relaunch this Spring, the popular podcast still brings in 25,000 downloads monthly, three years after going on hiatus.
A 20-year videogame professional, Karen is a notable creative designer who has held roles at several media companies including serving as one of the early employees at Twitch Interactive, which was acquired by Amazon in 2014. She spent over seven years as a design lead, helping to build and establish Twitch as the premier live streaming platform for gamers and other lifestyle casters before leaving in late 2020 to focus on being a full-time mom.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Karen’s education included Industrial Design at Carnegie Mellon University before receiving her BA in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. She currently resides in Oakland, California with her husband, young daughter, and dog, Puddy.

Note from Zennie62Media’s Zennie62 YouTube and Oakland News Now Today Blog SF Bay Area: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
