ONN – Can “Keep It Oakland” save small business in Oakland?
“Keep It Oakland” is a movement that was already there but now has been accelerated by the Oakland Indie Alliance.
The intent, as explained to me by Amy Hillyard, co-owner of Farley’s East Cafe in Uptown Oakland, is to support and promote The Town’s native entrepreneurs.
As the website reads:
Keep It Oakland is a lifestyle, a movement, and a celebration launched and championed by local independent businesses who have deep roots in our beloved Town. When you SHOP, DINE, DRINK & THRIVE at indie businesses, you support and help shape the community we love #KEEPITOAKLAND.
Amy explained that the Oakland Indie Alliance hired an agency to establish the promotional campaign (it should have called Zennie62Media for help, but I digress).
The T-shirt you see was created to raise funds for the non-profit. You can buy the t-shirts at Farley’s East Cafe at 33 Grand Avenue, which is the home of the “Keep It Oakland” movement and learn more by visiting the webpage here: https://keepitoakland.town/ and its instagram page here: https://www.instagram.com/keepitoakland18/
“Keep It Oakland” is the latest expression of an ongoing problem: Oakland’s lack of civic pride. It’s reached an all-time-low with the in-process-departure of the Oakland Raiders to become something no one will recognize called The Las Vegas Raiders, and the unthinkable-were-it-not-for Marc Benioff departure of the Golden State Warriors to San Francisco.
What is Oakland? What does Oakland have? It’s independent businesses!
Stay tuned.
