ONN – Kyler Murray To Oakland Raiders In NFL Draft? Maybe Not

Kyler Murray has announced his decision to pursue a career as an NFL quarterback, rather than a Major League Baseball player with the Oakland A’s. Some believe that automatically means Murray will be an Oakland Raiders NFL Draft selection in this year’s version of the event.

Ah, no.

There are several quarterbacks arguably better than Kyler Murray in the 2019 NFL Draft: Dwayne Haskins, Tyree Jackson, Amir Hall, Drew Lock, and Daniel Jones come to mind. And, while Murray is slated as being better than those names, a lot will change between now, the NFL Combine, and the NFL Draft.

Then, there’s the whole Derek Carr factor. There’s no real indication the Silver and Black is ready to pass on their highly paid signal caller, yet. And the Raiders owe him $20 million this year. Carr has come to be the face of the franchise – to boot him out now in the hopes of a QB prayer would be economic suicide.

That’s not to say the Raiders won’t pick a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft, but it doesn’t make sense, right now, to pencil in the highest pick for a selection.

Unless Tyree Jackson blows everyone doors off – which I expect to happen.

Stay tuned.
