ONN – Las Vegas Losing The 2020 NFL Draft Due To The Pandemic Is Truly Sad For Everyone
I got the word about the as yet not officially confirmed by the NFL cancellation of the 2020 NFL Draft in Las Vegas.
Ironically, I did as I was signing up to cover The 2020 NFL Draft Red Carpet. I had heard the news on 92.9 The Game here in Atlanta, and then again on Twitter. It came from long-time NFL writer Hub Arkush. The NFL has not officially denied the news at this time.
I was truly excited for Las Vegas and that is separate from the Raiders Relocation Issue. Any city can land the NFL Draft, so for Las Vegas to get it was a real coup. For me, this would mark 14 of 15 years I have covered the NFL Draft and thanks to Joe Brown, the now emeritus former Executive Vice President of the NFL.
I was looking forward to seeing and experiencing how the plan Peter O’Reilly, the league’s special events genius, would work in actual practice. Particularly the Red Carpet on the waters of the Bellagio Fountains. At past NFL Red Carpets, one could go back to the media room then back to the area where it was. In Las Vegas, you’re on a barge. No escape! (Maybe there were porto-potty’s?).
Alas, that will not happen.
But I feel for the people I know at Harrah’s Las Vegas, who are so wonderful. It’s wrong that people in the hospitality business – the business of making people happy – are the ones feeling the hardest punch from this. It’s not right.
If’s sad.
Stay tuned.
Note from Zennie62Media and Oakland News Now: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
