WASHINGTON – DC Vote, a national advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and securing equality for all who call DC home, will honor the League of Women Voters of the United States with the Champion of Democracy award at DC Vote’s annual gala on November 21, 2019.
The Forward to 51 – A DC Vote Celebration that features the League of Women Voters – is a signature event for DC Statehood and will be held at the Hilton Washington DC National Mall Hotel at L’Enfant Plaza on November 21.
“We are honored to accept this recognition on behalf of our dedicated activists who continue to fight for equal representation in the District of Columbia,” said Virginia Kase, CEO of the League of Women Voters of the United States. “Our passionate volunteers have taken their work across the country to build nationwide support for more than 700,000 residents of DC who deserve full representation in Congress.”
“The League of Women Voters was one of the first national organizations to support DC Statehood. It’s because of organizations like LWV that we are able to continue to educate the nation on the unfair treatment of the residents of DC because of taxation without representation,” said Bo Shuff, Executive Director, DC Vote. “This is an opportunity to honor the mission of this great organization to empower voters and defend democracy .”
Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and DC’s Mayor, Muriel Bowser, will deliver remarks at the gala. In addition, DC Vote will honor Rep. Gerry Connolly and Rep. Jamie Raskin as additional Champions of Democracy.
This event is open to the media. Requests for media credentials should be sent to Tanzi West Barbour at [email protected]. Tickets for the Gala can be purchased with a click here.
