Mike Jacob On Oakland Howard Terminal After Oakland Councilmember Loren Taylor’s Comments To Zennie Abraham

Mike Jacob On Oakland Howard Terminal After Oakland Councilmember Loren Taylor’s Project Update Comments To Zennie Abraham, CEO of ZENNIE62MEDIA, INC.

Mike Jacob is the lawyer for the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association. In this role, currently, he’s representing the organization’s effort to stop the construction of Oakland A’s Howard Terminal Ballpark at Jack London Square because the PMSA perceives it as something that will interrupt the business operations of the member companies. Mike has become a great sounding board and moral check on the ballpark project, skilfully balancing the interests of the PMSA with a well-educated and experienced take on the Howard Terminal Development Process. This is our latest talk, and I think one of our best on the subject of the Howard Terminal Ballpark Project.

Here’s his biography:

Mike Jacob is Vice President & General Counsel of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, an independent, not-for-profit maritime trade association with offices in Oakland, Long Beach and Seattle and represents owners and operators of ocean-going vessels, marine terminal operators, ocean carriers, shipping lines, and steamship agents operating on the West Coast.

Mike joined PMSA in 2005. As Vice President and General Counsel he manages legal, public, and regulatory affairs for the Association, regularly appears before state, local and federal governmental bodies in various administrative and legislative capacities, and represents PMSA in state and federal courts on behalf of its membership.

Prior to joining PMSA, he was a government affairs consultant with clients including the Bay Area Rapid Transit District and the Port of Oakland. From 1996-2001, Mike worked for the California State Legislature, including as Chief Consultant to the Assembly Information Technology Committee.

Mike’s professional experience in transportation and public affairs is complemented by his service and interest in regional planning, real estate, and housing. Mike was an appointed member of the Alameda County Planning Commission from 2003-2015, serving three terms as Chair. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, a non-profit developer and operator of award-winning affordable housing throughout Northern California, totaling over 3,000 units constructed and managed. Mike has been on the Board of SAHA since 2007.

Mike holds a JD from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a BA in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the California State Bar, United States Supreme Court Bar, and the Maritime Law Association of the United States. Mike is also currently the Chair of the Advisory Board for the College of Letters & Science for the California State University, Maritime Academy. Mike lives in Oakland with his wife and daughter.
