NFL Not Considering Las Vegas Super Bowl Yet, Price Gouging Concerns

ONN – Will Las Vegas host the 2025 Super Bowl, or even get a Las Vegas Super Bowl?

The next Super Bowls from 54 through 58 are all spoken for by Miami, Tampa, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and New Orleans. But where is Las Vegas, slated to get Las Vegas Stadium as the new home of the Oakland Raiders?

The talk was that the Raiders were pursuing the Super Bowl Game for Las Vegas 2025, Super Bowl 59.

Well, according to my conversation with a League source, who did not want to be identified, the league has been so busy with Super Bowl preparation for the next five years, it hasn’t even taken up the matter of Las Vegas. “We’re deep in the work for the next five Super Bowls before we look at the future,” my source said.

As the one who formed Oakland’s only bid to host the Super Bowl, and for Super Bowl 39 in 2005, I asked my source how the NFL would deal with the problem of price gouging. Nose bleed increases in Las Vegas Strip hotel prices, and the resort fee that tops $40 a day at some properties, plus parking fees, and charging for offerings that were once free for gamblers, like drinks, have contributed to a fall in Las Vegas Visitors totals for two of the last three years, and this year the growth was just over two percent.

My source said “We know that’s a problem and we are trying to figure out how to deal with it.” Something else of concern to the league is if Las Vegas really does want to host the Super Bowl? Reports with hoteliers saying that Las Vegas has so much going on that it doesn’t need the Super Bowl have got the NFL’s attention, and not in a good way.

That’s price gouging problem will also come up with next year’s NFL Draft in Las Vegas, unless the league works with Vegas officials to determine a way to solve the problem. The problem, however, will not cause a shift in venue: Las Vegas will host the 2020 NFL Draft.

Stay tuned.
