ONN – Oakland Black Couple Racism Toward Latina At Grocery Store Parking Lot Gets Tongue Lashing
A post in a Facebook Group and by a Latina Oaklander features an African American couple in a shouting match with the woman in what appears to be, and by the audio of the video is, the parking lot of the Oakland Grocery Outlet at 2900 Broadway.
Apparently, the black couple took offense to the Latina woman speaking spanish in public, and from what the Latina woman said she upset about in the video, started verbally abusing her. But the woman named Lupe Loera, wasn’t putting up with it, and filmed them, giving them a massively blistering tongue-lashing in the process.
While the video doesn’t capture what the couple initially said, its clear from the video that their intent was to cause emotional harm to Ms. Loera, purely for speaking and looking “spanish.” In my book, and Oakland’s, that’s a hate crime.
The Oakland Hate Crime number is (510) 637-4283. And the law governing its application is: California Penal Code Section 422.55, where “as a criminal act committed, in whole or in part, because of one or more of the following actual or perceived characteristics of the victim: disability, gender, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics. Such criminal acts can include, but not limited to physical assault, threatening phone calls, and vandalism to property.”
In closing, hopefully that couple steps forward and apologizes for their behavior toward Ms. Loera. We have too many incidents of racism in Oakland, and the rate has increased over the past five years. A Google search for “racist oakland woman calls police on latino” reveals over 2 million results. We have to get to a point where everyone in Oakland does not feel that kind of behavior is even okay to exhibit.
Stay tuned.
Note from Zennie62Media and Oakland News Now: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
