Oakland City Council Meetings Featuring Police Commission, Sick Leave, Ed Reiskin, Cancelled

ONN – Oakland City Council Meetings Featuring Police Commission, Sick Leave, Ed Reiskin, Cancelled

Today’s dual Oakland City Council meetings at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm were cancelled. They were to take up resolutions that concern sick leave for Oakland workers, police commission powers, the approval of Ed Reiskin as Chief Administrative Officer, and a special day for Maraskeshia Smith.

Oakland Councilmember Sheng Thao District 4 (Montclair, Oakland Hills) sent this email expressing her displeasure over the reasons for the outcome:

Friends,

Thank you for your continued patience as we update you on the changing dynamics of our scheduled meetings today.

Due to a sudden lack of quorum, tonight’s Council meeting scheduled at 5:30pm has been cancelled. Tonight’s Council agenda had an Emergency Ordinance that I co-authored, to expand emergency paid sick leave to workers during the pandemic.

Right now thousands of workers are risking their lives and livelihood. Because of this cancellation they will have to continue to wait to receive paid sick leave benefits that can help protect not only their lives but the lives of their families and their customers, as well.

I am disappointed in the sudden lack of quorum. I personally stood ready to take action at today’s meeting to address some of the needs our community faces during this difficult time. I am further disappointed that thousands of our fellow Oaklander’s will have to wait on this lifesaving measure.

I look forward to voting on this measure at our next Council meeting.

Best,

Sheng Thao
Councilmember District 4

Stay tuned.

Note from Zennie62Media and Oakland News Now: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
