Oakland City Workers Call out Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s Administration for Union Busting
ONN – City of Oakland Workers march on City Administrator Sabrina Landreth and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf for union busting and starving city services. The City of Oakland has understaffed its civilian workforce by almost 20 percent.
City of Oakland workers sought a wage increase of between 4 percent and 5 percent from the Oakland City Council last night. But the recently passed City of Oakland 2019-2021 Budget promised only the restoration of some jobs the Mayor of Oakland wanted to cut.
As mentioned here at Oakland News Now, before, having a position with the City of Oakland is not always the automatic middle class gig that it was in the past. This is because the City of Oakland has failed to keep its worker wage levels up to the cost-of-living needs in the City itself.
One of the Local 21 representatives said this: “The City of Oakland prematurely declared an impasse and have threatened layoffs because they are furious that workers were advocating for a budget that wasn’t the Mayor’s. ”
