Oakland, CA – Today, Tuesday March 5th, at the City of Oakland Public Works Committee meeting Oakland City Council President Kaplan’s Resolution (found here) she authored to request the City Administrator to prioritize a pro-active “Block By Block” Zone Based system to address blight and illegal dumping was passed.
Previously in an article (found here) President Kaplan stated: “I believe this approach makes most sense as the next step in eliminating blight in our city. Instead of encouraging a culture of complaining, and leaving trash on the street, we should promote a system of accountability that assigns crews to zones, including targeting known hot-spots, for cleanup. This will help to put a stop to the cycle of illegal dumping, trash and blight.”
The Resolution was passed unanimously and will be on the consent calendar at the Tuesday, March 12th City Council meeting beginning at 5:30PM.
Council President Rebecca Kaplan was elected in 2008 to serve as Oakland’s citywide Councilmember, she was re-elected in 2016. She also serves on the Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC). Follow Council President Kaplan on Twitter @Kaplan4Oakland and Facebook.
