Oakland Elections 2022 Update: Nancy Sidebotham In District 6, 15 People In Oakland Mayor Race

Nancy Sidebotham is in.

Nancy Sidebotham is challenging incumbent Loren Taylor in the Oakland City Council District 6 Race.  After threatening to join the Oakland Mayoral Election, the long-time Oakland elections participant, er, elected, to throw her hat into the D6 race, and take direct aim at Councilmember Taylor.   In turn, Nancy is joined by Paula Gonsalez and Kevin Jenkins.

Ms. Sidebotham briefly broke the news at Zennie62 YouTube Live, here, in our talk about Oakland’s newest crime of Dog Napping:

Meanwhile Councilmember Taylor continues to claim he’s just running for the open seat in the Oakland Mayoral Election, and not his current City Council Seat in D6.   If that’s the case, why doesn’t Loren pull a Sheng Thao and drop out of the D6 race?  The District Four Councilmember and City Council President had her name in two places, mayor and D4, but then elected to drop out of D4 after complaints from Zennie62Media’s Oakland News Now, specifically this vlogger.    It’s illegal to run for two seats at once and Loren is using the space to have his name out there, twice.

Oakland Mayors Race Up To 15 Candidates With Addition of John Marks And Elbert Owens

Ok, now the Oakland Mayoral Election is crowded, and in a 2014 way.  In that year, 2014, we saw 15 Oaklanders run for Mayor.  From that pack emerged Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, pictured here and on Zennie62 YouTube and in this Oakland Lawsuit video made at my Oakland Sports Forum held that year:

And where I proclaimed Oakland At-Large Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan the winner:

But this year presents a different set of candidates.  Here’s the latest list:

Ignacio De La Fuente

Gregory Hodge

Derreck Johnson

Tyron Jordan

Peter Liu

John Marks

Elbert Owens

Treva Reid

John Reimann

Stephen Schear

Seneca Scott

Derrick Soo

Loren Taylor

Sheng Thao

Allyssa Victory Villanueva

Of this group, John Marks and Elbert Owens are the new comers and there’s scant information about them. And in the case of Mr Owens there’s no document at all, which has to be some kind of City Clerk error, and I will contact the office.  But the question now is, or has to be, just how large is the candidate field for the Oakland Mayoral Election going to get before all is said and done for this year?

Nikky Bas And Janani Ramachandran Running Without Opposition

That written, it must be noted that, as of this writing, there’s no one running for Oakland City Auditor or any of the open Oakland Unified School District Board Seats in Districts 2, 4, and 6.   And District 2 has Nikky Bas running for re-election unopposed while Janani Ramachandran is at the helm of the race for the District 4 seat.

That’s another way of saying she’s running without a challenger or two.

Stay tuned.

Note from Oakland News Now Today Blog SF Bay Area, Zennie62 YouTube, and Zennie62Media: this Oakland News Now video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
