ONN – Oakland Live News: Bardo Lounge & Supper Club Open, Smitty’s Cocktails Closed
This first episode of Oakland Live News finds good news and bad news.
First, the good news.
Bardo Lounge & Supper Club reopened April 14th, and has steadily regained its classy clientele in the weeks since. The lounge and eatery at 3343 Lakeshore Avenue has drawn a fanatical audience of Oaklanders and Bay Area dwellers who could not wait for the joint to get jumpin, again. Now they can visit!
And now, the bad news.
Smitty’s Cocktails, an Oakland Institution at 3330 Grand Avenue on the same side as The Alley Cat Bar closed a month ago, and in a very sad way. I am told by a source who’s a local business owner in the neighborhood that the main partner skipped out on that person’s business teammate and went to parts unknown. When I called the number, what I got was “This number has been changed. The new number is, long pause, unlisted.”
Clearly someone does not want to be found. If you have more information please add it below. It would be good to know if someone else is going to take it over.
And while we’re on news about neighborhood bars and restaurants near the Grand Lake Theater, Aisle 5, the great sports bar and burger joint at 3320 Grand Avenue, also closed. The website reads “Due to the challenging business environment, we have come to the decision to permanently close Aisle 5. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to have served the Grand Lake Community these past three years.”
It was replaced by a new wine bar, I am told, but I’ve not been able to confirm that.
And if you recall the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Lake Park and Walker Avenue? Well, that place was replaced with a Starbucks.
Yeah, I know. Stay tuned.

Note from Zennie62Media’s Zennie62 YouTube and Oakland News Now Today Blog SF Bay Area: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
