Oakland Manzanita School Library Unveiling College Football Financed Makeover

“Oakland Manzanita Schools’ Library Being Unveiled Friday Morning After Makeover Related to January’s College Football Championship Game; Unveiling Comes Five Months After Schools Suffered Devastating Vandalism” release sent to Zennie62Media.

Oakland, CA – Today, Friday morning, September 6 at the co-located Manzanita Community School and Manzanita SEED, there is a big event planned to celebrate a major makeover of the schools’ library. The bright new look came courtesy of the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation, the Bay Area Host Committee and the Pac-12. The Manzanita Library received this honor in all the pageantry related to the College Football Championship Game between Clemson and Alabama that took place in January.

Manzanita was chosen in large part because of the application that library technician Todd Davis submitted for the project. It included this statement: “We are an underserved community that would benefit tremendously from such a project. This would show our students that they matter in a world that forgets them too often.” OUSD is overjoyed that Mr. Davis’ heartfelt words paid off and landed the students of the Manzanita schools the library makeover.
A few months after the championship game and the announcement that the school had won the makeover, Manzanita had a very different kind of experience when vandals broke in during spring break and trashed part of the campus, including the library, breaking windows, throwing paint on the walls, smashing equipment, stealing some items and creating an enormous mess that devastated the school community. The students, staff and families rebounded from that, and this event will be icing on the cake for everyone who will get to take advantage of the new environment. It’s now a full media center complete with tables, chairs, and comfortable seating areas for reading and studying.

The media is invited to attend the ceremony, which will include leaders from the CFP Foundation, the Pac-12 and the Bay Area Host Committee, plus School Specialty, the company that did the work. Also on hand will be students excited to take advantage of the new media center.
