Why, on the day that the African American Sports and Entertainment Group introduces the City’s first black female professional sports team owner, would the Mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, fail to be in the ZOOM room to meet and welcome here?
There’s no excuse for WNBA Legend Alana Beard to not receive a welcome from Mayor Schaaf. There’s, in reality, no other effort active to bring the WNBA to the City of Oakland. The Mayor of our town should be right there with both feet, rather than dare send out the signal that she’s subbing an African American effort.
This is where the Mayor of Oakland is supposed to be the adult in the room and be the leader. But once again, she’s not doing that.
And that’s sad for all of us in Oakland.
