Oakland Raiders 2019-2020 Coliseum Lease Extension In Limbo Again
ONN – Oakland Raiders 2019-2020 Coliseum Lease Extension In Limbo Again
The lease extension for the Oakland Raiders to play the 2019 and 2020 NFL Seasons at the Oakland Coliseum was to have been signed in a public ceremony today. Instead, the Coliseum JPA (Joint Powers Authority) Meeting was pushed back to Wednesday or Thursday (UPDATE: Wednesday March 6th at 9 AM), and the event will be behind closed doors – in closed session. It’s at that closed session meeting that Coliseum JPA Executive Director Scott McKibben is expected to “brief the board”.
In other words, explain to the Coliseum JPA Board why the Raiders have not signed the lease that was expected to be gotten done this week.
The reasons for this, this blogger was told (not by McKibben), were that the Oakland City Attorney’s Office weighed in with its own set of demands that slowed down the process. One person (again not McKibben) said to me that “(Oakland City Attorney’) Barbara Parker is messing things up.”
Well, considering the City of Oakland has an active lawsuit against the Raiders, that’s to be expected, but that also begs the question of what demands she and her staff could place on the Raiders? There’s also the spectre of the Oakland A’s.
I am told the Oakland A’s want the Raiders off of the Coliseum land yesterday – and so they can finish preparation and planning and negotiations to build their dual development stadium plan. The A’s have not confirmed that desire to me at this time.
Stay tuned.
