Oakland News Now – The Jon Gruden-era of the Oakland Raiders officially started with the release of the first depth chart of the 2018 NFL Season, and that was done Monday, August 6th. On tonight’s livestream, we talk about it as well as other Oakland Raiders and NFL News head of the first games of the 2018 Preseason.
The Oakland Raiders first depth chart of the 2018 NFL Season contains some surprises:
1. The quarterback depth chart has Connor Cook ahead of E.J. Manuel for the first time in the history of that pair with the Oakland Raiders. Under Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio, E.J. Manuel (who the Del-Rio coached team landed in free-agency) was second in the line behind starter Derek Carr. In 2017, Cook got off to a bad start in Raiders training camp, with sessions where he missed open receivers, and was routinely off-target, not getting better until the final days of camp in Napa.
This year, Cook is ahead of Manuel, and Raider Nation took note…

It’s just training camp so this isn’t set in stone but EVERYONE know Ej Manuel better than Connor Cook! Shit, he damn near better than Carr but imma keep my mouth shut! ?

2. Eddie Vanderdoes not even on the third team, placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. But it’s in the fourth or “other” category, and that’s because he’s not recovered from that ACL tear from last year. Many were questioning if he would be in camp at all.
3. Khalil Mack not on the depth chart at all – not even on the “other” list. This is bad. At least Donald Penn and Vanderdoes are on the chart, but they’re not camp holdouts. It’s hard to imagine Jon Gruden and Raiders GM Reggie MacKenzie trading the Raiders star defender, but this is a sign that they’re ready to move on, if they have to. The talk on the livestream was how can the Raiders keep Mack from landing a gig with an AFC West NFL team like the LA Chargers, and via an elaborate trade?
Stay tuned.
