The 2019 and third annual version of the Women’s March was held Saturday January 19th in many American cities, and at various locations, and Oakland was part of the mix of activity, yet again. Here’s a look at how Oakland, with a turnout estimated at between 15,000 and 20,000, marched and celebrated the rise of women in politics, and denounced the actions of President Trump in the process.

What Is The Oakland Women’s March?

According to the website Women’s March Oakland, the 2019 march started at 10 AM, and was “co-hosted by Women’s March Oakland, Black Women Organized for Political Action, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center.”

Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA) was there…

New Oakland City Council District Four Councilmember Sheng Thao was there and joined by new Oakland City Council District Two Councilmember Nikky Bas. Councilmember Thao wrote “Women’s March Oakland!! Here with these strong, independent women – all on the ADEM progressive labor Slate for the AD 18th district. Today, I’m marching for women’s equality, for DV survivors, for all the single moms making it happen day in and day out, and for every single superwoman out there.”

Holy Names Peace and Justice Club was there….

The Women’s March Oakland Youth Contingent was there….

And notable organizations like the Socalist Feminist Caucus of the East Bay Democratic Socialists were out in force at the Oakland Women’s March….

Oakland Women’s March participants were not only along the Downtown Oakland parade route, but also listened to speeches at Lake Merritt by such luminaries as legendary 13th Congressional District Rep Barbara Lee:
