Oakland’s African American Honor Roll Students Focus Of OUSD Event

Oakland, CA – On Monday evening, May 13, thousands of students, families and educators will come together at Oakland’s Acts Full Gospel Church for the 18th Annual African American Honor Roll Celebration.

The event honors all African American Honor Roll Students from across Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) and who have achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher, with special recognition going to students with a GPA of 3.75 and above. Some 1500 students in grades 8-12 will be on hand to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to their studies.

The event is sponsored by Oakland Unified School District’s Office of Equity, the African American Male Achievement initiative and the African American Education Task Force. Guest speakers will include Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and OUSD Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell.

“This celebration is so important to our young people, reminding them not only that their hard work is paying off, but that all of us see and honor their achievements,” said OUSD Superintendent Johnson-Trammell. “It’s also about celebrating the families and educators who play such critical roles in these successes. I look forward to telling all our young people in person how proud I am of what they have accomplished and thanking our families and staff for all the support that they give their students.”
