OUSD Board’s Jumoke Hinton Hodge Chokes Oakland Teacher In Skirmish
ONN – Ms. Jumoke Hinton Hodge, a seasoned member of the Board of Directors of The Oakland Unified School District, long-time member of the Oakland political community, and friend of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, and this blogger, apparently lost her cool and did something universally regarded as violent and stupid. She choked the neck of Oakland Teacher and Oakland Teacher’s Strike Captain Darnisha Wright on Friday.
UPDATE: Jumoke Hinton-Hodge posted this statement on the incident at Oakland News Now.
The scene, as captured in a video placed in a public Facebook post by Margot Goldstein, was before the emergency OUSD board meeting on the budget held Thursday.
The OUSD and the Oakland Education Association (OEA) came to an agreement that ended the Oakland Teachers Strike on this day, Friday.
Ms. Goldstein writes “Y’all need to watch this. It’s school board member Jumoke Hinton Hodge choking strike captain Darnisha Wright, a Kindergarten teacher at Markham elementary at the picket at La Escuelita today. The teachers and supporters are trying to block board members from going into the emergency meeting to vote on budget cuts.” That explains why you hear someone say for the crowd to “push” forward.
But that said, there was no excuse for Jumoke Hinton Hodge to choke Darnisha Wright. More on this soon.
