OUSD Announces Winners of the COVID Vaccine Raffle
Winners Receive Tickets to Golden State Warriors Games
Oakland – Oakland Unified School District is proud to announce the winners of the COVID vaccination raffle. This was the raffle created by the District to encourage students to get vaccinated after the Board of Education voted on October 27, 2021 to require students 12 years old and up to get vaccinated. There are two categories of vaccinated students: those who were vaccinated by the day the Board passed its requirement, and those who have gotten vaccinated in the months since. Two students in each of these categories win tickets to Golden State Warriors games.
The winners in the pre-requirement period are: Leslie C., 11th grader at Fremont High, and Vivian T., 6th grader at Roosevelt Middle School. The winners in the post-requirement period are: Ronell M., 10th grader at Madison Park Academy, and Skylar N., 9th grader at Oakland High. Congratulations to all the winners. Each of them will receive four tickets to an upcoming Golden State Warriors game courtesy of Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.
It’s important to note that the District saw an additional 18% of eligible students get vaccinated after the Board of Education passed the vaccine requirement. That has helped push our overall verified rate of students who are 12+ years old who are fully vaccinated to almost 70%, and the rate of students who have been at least partially vaccinated is now 75%.
“We are so excited to honor these students who got their COVID vaccine with an opportunity to see the Golden State Warriors play in-person,” said Board of Education Vice President, Sam Davis who led the push to institute the vaccine requirement. “Our collective COVID response efforts continue to keep our students, families, and communities safe, but this is an important moment to honor the progress we’ve made and celebrate these students and families. Congratulations and have fun!”
Despite the good news of increasing numbers of vaccinated students, 25% of our students 12 years old and up remain unvaccinated. The District remains steadfast in its commitment to getting all students, including those 5-11 years old, vaccinated. Doctors and public health officials remind us that being vaccinated against COVID-19 remains the most important step you can take to protect yourself, your family, and our city from the pandemic. OUSD will host numerous vaccine clinics at schools coming up next month. A later communication will include details of when and where the clinics will happen.
