OUSD’s First Day of School Is Monday, August 9 – COVID Should Keep Kids Home
OUSD released this:
Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell Will Tour Schools Across District With Board of Education, District Leadership, and Special Guests Including Mayor Libby Schaaf, City Council Members, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond
Oakland – Tens of thousands of students will be returning to OUSD campuses on Monday, August 9, for the first day of the 2021-22 school year, and the first day of in-person instruction for most students in 17 months. Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell will spend the day touring schools with her leadership team, Directors on the Board of Education and other leaders. The school visits will traverse the city, reaching a school in all seven Board of Education districts, and will include Mayor Libby Schaaf, members of the Oakland City Council and State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond.
The tour starts before school begins at Oakland Academy of Knowledge (OAK), which is the newly renamed Howard Elementary, which just merged with Roses in Concrete charter school. Then it moves to the co-located Coliseum College Prep Academy, and Lockwood STEAM Academy – which is the newly renamed and merged Futures and Community United elementary schools. Next up is Horace Mann Elementary, where Superintendent Johnson-Trammell, Superintendent Thurmond, Mayor Schaaf, and others will visit classes, help hand out backpacks and school supplies, and hold a media availability. The tour then moves to United for Success middle school, Franklin Elementary, West Oakland Middle, and it ends at Emerson Elementary with an end of day press conference. See below for the timing of all the school visits.
Throughout the day, Superintendent Johnson-Trammell and the other leaders will greet students, staff members, and families, observe teaching and learning, and support the District’s Restorative Restart wherever possible. “We’re thrilled that we are coming back to our campuses to start the 2021-22 school year,” said Superintendent Johnson-Trammell. “It has been a long time coming for our schools. Our students and staff benefit the most by working together in-person, and over the last week I have seen how excited so many of our students and staff are to be coming back together. Despite the challenges that all of us have faced, we look forward to a great school year.”

This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
