Oakland, CA – OAKLAND, CA – Yesterday we learned Councilmember McElhaney’s son Victor McElhaney was fatally shot in Southern California. Victor was a Senior at USC Thornton School of Music and was not far from campus when the tragedy occurred.
Said President Kaplan: “I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence. My prayers go out to my colleague, Councilmember McElhaney, during what I can only imagine is the most trying time in her life. Victor was a bright star and we were all following his success in school and in life. This is an unspeakable tragedy – one I hope will renew our commitment to justice.”
The City Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, March 12th 2019, has been cancelled.
