Oakland, CA – The Tuesday, April 2nd Oakland City Council meeting will begin early at 4:30PM in Council chambers. Also planned is a special tribute in honor of Victor McElhaney, son of Councilmember Lynette McElhaney, who was shot in Los Angeles on March 10th. There will be poetry from Paradise the Poet and a musical tribute by Kev Choice and friends. (Link to Agenda)
Said President Kaplan: “There are no words to describe the sadness we feel for our colleague in the loss of her son. Victor was passionate, brilliant, and a gifted musician. Oakland is lesser without his light.”
The Council also has scheduled an item to honor the legacy of Cesar Chavez. Brought by Councilmember Gallo, each Councilperson has chosen a community member who exemplifies a legacy of service. Council President Kaplan will be honoring Gary Jimenez who has dedicated his professional life to bettering Oakland and our larger community. (Link to Agenda Item)
