Ron Rivera was fired as Carolina Panthers Head Coach, but leaves behind a great legacy and a winning record: .546 or 74 wins, 63 losses, and 1 tie.
One of his 63 losses could have just as easily been one of his what would have been 75 wins and 62 losses: his Carolina Panthers loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.
There’s no reason for the Carolina Panthers to have lost to the Denver Broncos, save one reason: an offensive game plan that was so inflexible it did not take advantage of a Denver Defense that was giving up the outside fly pattern. The Carolina Panthers had fleet receivers like Ted Ginn, Jr., but never once tested the Broncos Defense in that way.
The Ron Rivera Carolina Panthers Head Coach epitaph will go like this: “His Offense didn’t employ its star players well.”
Cam Newton was tops in that area; a quarterback with an arm who can run, Ron Rivera seemed to see him as a quarterback with legs who could throw. A classic error.
