Oakland News Now – Salesforce Transit Center Upgrades, Maria Ayerdi Kaplan Work To Build TTC
The Transbay Transit Center is set to reopen Wednesday, October 17th. After discovery of cracks in steel beams above the bus ramp over Fremont Street, and similar but smaller problems over 1st Street, the facility was closed for upgrades.
“It is important that we have an extremely robust shoring system to ensure that all levels of the transit center are safe and secure. Unfortunately, this requires us to keep the street closed until this work is complete. We will reopen Fremont Street as soon as safely possible and apologize for the ongoing impact to the public,” said Mark Zabaneh, Executive Director of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority.
Fremont Street is set to reopen on Monday, October 15th.
A point must be made in the wake of findings and presentation by Salesforce Transit Center Developer Maria Ayerdi Kaplan. Without Maria Ayerdi‘s work, the Transit Center would have never happened. Moreover, the steel market after the Great Recession caused the cost overruns to the project, as well as a need to install a more robust security system.
