From the video-maker:
The story of the SAVE 1921 WALNUT St. movement. 1921 Walnut St. is a 112 year old rent-controlled apartment building in downtown Berkeley home to several long-term tenants. In 2020 at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic crisis, the University of California purchased 1921 Walnut St.. UC’s plan was to displace the tenants and demolish the building so that notorious real estate heiress Jackie Safier could redevelop the block for luxury, short-term, student-only apartments. The Berkeley community came together to protest UC’s plans.
The 1921 Walnut St tenants and their allies held several protests, marches, community BBQ’s and events. The Berkeley City Council supported the tenants, along with the Sierra Club, the ASUC, Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board, the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, Tenant and Neighborhood Councils, Berkeley Tenants Union, and countless community leaders and local groups.
Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin also supported the tenants. Then suddenly in July 2021, Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin held closed-door negotiations with the University of California and surrendered 1921 Walnut St. to UC. The tenants and the community felt deeply betrayed. Without the support of the City of Berkeley, the tenants could not mount a defense. After over one and a half years of struggle, the tenants at 1921 Walnut St. are set to be displaced by November 2021 and the building is set to be demolished starting in November 2021. But this was never just about winning or losing – this was about putting up a fight! And we put up a damn good fight!

Note from Zennie62Media and OaklandNewsNow.com : this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
